Part of Summershow at MoCDA - Museum of Contemporary Digital Art
In this work, Jessica Kuhn uses a wide range of mediums—ranging from VR sculpture and 3D-world construction to hand-drawn doodles—to create a digital collage. Drawing inspiration from Google Street View, she constructs a dystopian realm populated with replicated Soviet buildings, through which she explores her own sense of “Russianness.” Ukkkra unfolds as a complex collage of images intertwined with the war in Ukraine, refracted through her cultural lens. The piece presents a disquieting landscape where characters from children’s television, techno-gopnik figures, and mutilated bodies coexist on the same streets. As viewers wander through this space, they are confronted by their need for explanation, empathy, and revulsion.
